Hello, friends. I can’t believe today is the day. Tom and I are officially leaving for a year of travel. Our first stop along this wild ride is Tokyo. Well technically a few stop overs before we get there but in just a short 23 hours of flights and layovers, we will be around the world in Tokyo.
The past couple of weeks the reality of what we’re doing has really set in. For the past two years it’s been all excitement, plan-making and to-do lists but then it switched to saying goodbye to everyone we love. I try and tell myself it’s not that big of a deal. It’s only one year and I know we can stay in contact but it certainly doesn’t make it any easier.
Saying goodbye makes you realize just how fortunate you are. I’m surrounded by an incredible family and circles of amazing friends who I will miss so much. I’ve never felt so loved in my life. It’s a funny thing that when you’re saying goodbye or going away, people go out of their way to show how much they care for you. I’ve had parties in my honour, thoughtful gifts, and the most kind and supportive messages said and sent to me.
All of these things got me thinking, why do we only do or say these things for people when they’re going away? Why don’t we tell our coworkers that we think they’re doing an amazing job more often? Why don’t we tell our parents how much their support means to us? Why don’t we tell our friends that their friendship means the world to us? That without them on tough days you’re not sure how you’d get through and that on the up days there’s no one else you’d rather spend your time with.
In this day and age, we could use a little more love and positivity in this world. So don’t wait for the people in your life to leave before you tell them what they mean to you. Live with your heart on your sleeve and no regrets. Make people feel special on a daily basis.Live without regrets and make people feel special on a daily basis. It can be a small gesture like sending your Mom flowers for no reason but to tell her that you love her. Giving the barista you see almost daily a note of thanks and say how much you appreciate the work they do and their positive attitude. Texting your friend why you think they’re amazing and what they mean to you. Small gestures can go a long way.
And with that sentiment, I should say how much it means to me that you are reading this. You could be anyone. My family member, my friend, a long-time reader or someone brand new to my blog. I am equally grateful for each and every one of you. I write this blog as a way to express myself, share my story and hopefully provide some guidance and valuable information in the areas of nutrition, travel, fitness and beauty along the way. It means so much to me that anyone would take time out of their day to read my piece of the internet. So from the bottom of my heart thank you.
