Happy Thursday friends. I’m joining Amanda for Thinking Out Loud Thursday as per usual but today’s post will be a little different than normal.
Today is my birthday.
And while I wish I was this excited, I have to admit that I’m a little down today. Getting older scares me. It seems like time is just flying by and all I want to do is put everything on pause for a while. I know that age is just a number but knowing that this is the final year of my 20’s, I can’t help but feel a little sad. But you can’t stop progress so instead of dwelling on it, I plan to make this year a victory lap of my 20’s.
To do that I want to work on crossing a few things off my 30 before 30 list that I started a while ago. I’ve got a good start on it but I still have a ways to go in a year!
Done, it was amazing and everything I ever thought it would be! (Recap here)
2. Snorkel the great barrier reef
I hope to make this one happen soon!
3. Climb Mach Picchu
The trip is booked for this fall and I cannot wait.
Run a marathon
I remember when I put this on my list and thought it was a dream that would probably never come true. And here I am now, two marathons down (New York Marathon & Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle) and training for my third!
Give yoga a try
I’m not a yogi by any stretch (like my pun 😉 ), but I have tried yoga and do it on occasion. I probably should do it more often.
6. Ride in a hot air balloon
7. Run a sub 2:00 half marathon
This is my goal for this year. I’ll be attempting this at the Stampede Road Race this summer.
Got to New York
Heck yes! I did the ultimate tour of New York during the marathon and loved my time there.
9. See Garth Brooks live
Sigh, I don’t know if this will happen in the next year but I would be so happy if by some miracle it did
See Celine Dion in Vegas
Sadly, I missed her first show which was more of a Las Vegas style show, but I still got to see her in Vegas and it was a great show.
11. Learn to bake bread
Still haven’t even attempted this though I know it’s not that difficult. In the meantime, I’ll just steal my sister’s homemade bread
12. Buy a designer pair of shoes
This isn’t even a goal of mine anymore. I would much rather spend my money on other things.
13. Read a classic book
This is pretty broad and I’m not sure I had an idea in mind when I added this to my list. But I have read some classics like To Kill A Mockingbird and Pride & Prejudice so I’ll call this one done.
14. Watch Gone with the Wind
There are actually a lot of classic movies that I’ve never seen. I’ve never seen Casablanca, Annie, The Sound of Music, Marry Poppins or Wizard of Oz. I guess I have a lot of movies to watch.
15. Go to the Ellen Degeneres show
I don’t think this will happen before I’m 30 and maybe never, but boy would it be fun.
16. Go to a black tie event
17. Work at a makeup counter
This isn’t a goal of mine anymore. I’m no longer actively working as a makeup artist and don’t aspire to anymore either.
18. Run a Ragnar Relay
I completed Ragnar So Cal last year with Tom and had the best time.
Got to New Zealand
See a show on broadway
I saw Book of Mormon & Chicago when I was in New York.
Learn to meditate
With the help of the headspace app, I’ve gotten a better understanding of meditation. However, I haven’t been good at keeping up the practice.
22. Get another tattoo
I know what I want, I just need to work up the courage to do it!
Find a perfect salmon recipe I love to eat
A little olive oil with salt & pepper baked at 450 degrees. Simple and it works. I went from someone who hated salmon to someone who loves it.
24. Learn, or at least, start to learn a new language
Tom and I want to try to learn Spanish before our trip to South America this fall. He’s already much further into this process than I am!
Improve my photography skills
I am by no means a skilled photographer, but I do think my skills have improved. See the first posts from this blog and I think you would agree!
Complete a full month exercise challenge
I’m already two months down on the Jamie Eason Live Fit program and into my third month.
28. Get writing published
29. Host a fancy dinner party
30. Send Christmas cards
I guess I better get on this one this Christmas! Expect some cards friends and family.
So overall I have 16 of my 30 things left to accomplish. That doesn’t leave me with a lot of confidence that I’ll finish my list but it does give me something to work towards.
