Happy Monday friends, I managed to survive two days of Wine Fest and live to tell the tales. So here’s my weekend recap.
My plan for Friday morning was to run my long run. But lately, my plantar fasciitis has been flaring up again which frustrates me to no end! Since I had just done a run on Thursday, I decided to take a rest day and leave my long run to Saturday. Which means I ended up having a pretty chill morning at home.
I met up for the afternoon session of Wine Fest with Jen. She scored some tickets to the industry only event and invited me along. I’ve been to Wine Fest a few times but going to the industry only event was different. It was a very small crowd, so you really had time to chat with each representative of the company and get to know about their wines and vineyard.
At five, the session ended and we headed to my friend, Kate’s house who happens to live stumbling distance away. Then of course, we decided to pick up another bottle of wine. We ordered some pizza, attempted playing a board game and chatted the night away.
Okay, well not the whole night, I ended up getting home by 9. I chugged a bunch of water and went right to bed.
I woke up Saturday feeling great. Got to love that I don’t get hangovers! The weather looked pretty miserable out so it took me a little longer than usual to get my butt out the door for my run.
I finished my 12-mile run and then came home to take a bubble bath. That’s my favourite thing to do post long run and I love when I have enough time for it.
I met up with Ange for dinner, who I was going to my second night of wine fest with. We went to a Mexican place called Native Tongues. We hesitated on ordering a margarita knowing that we were heading to drink wine all night but it seemed like the kind of place that you couldn’t turn down.
It was pricey but we made the right decision as this was a great authentic tasting margarita. We split a tostada appetizer followed by multiple tacos. By the time we left, our bellies were full and ready to take on all the wine!
It was actually kind of nice heading back to WineFest for the second time. I got to try a bunch of wines I didn’t get to the first time around and I got to take Ange to some of the booths with my favourite wines from the first day.
My favourite wine of the whole show was the Jacobs Creek Double Barrel Shiraz. It’s aged in Glenlivet barrels giving it a unique whiskey taste that was incredible and unique.
My most surprising like of the night was a mulled wine from Spirit Hills that surprisingly is made in Alberta. It’s mulled with cinnamon and sugar and served warm. It was delicious and absolutely going to be served at my camping trips this summer.
Sunday I got up and once again went for a run. This time, I took it to the treadmill because I just wasn’t feeling like running outdoors. Sometimes it’s a mental battle and the treadmill seems easier for whatever reason. I felt sorry for the person beside me on the treadmill because I’m certain I had wine sweats! TMI?
Then I spent my entire day cleaning house and watching Gilmore Girls. Nothing too crazy for me.
What was the highlight of your weekend? What’s the most unique wine you have ever tried?
