Happy Tuesday everyone! I think most everyone got yesterday off work and had a long weekend, which I hope you made the most of. But I can’t keep track of the holidays that vary by province or state, so if you were at work yesterday, I’m sorry. Let’s get recapping what I got up to.
I had a lazy start to my Friday. Tom went out the night before with some friends and was feeling a little under the weather so I mostly cuddled on the couch with him and watched The Office until it was time for us to get ready to head to our hometown, Camrose.
Once we got to Camrose, we made a stop at Starbucks to try the chocolate molten latte. My sister-in-law let me know about it because of my love for all things coffee & chocolate and it did not disappoint!
Then we met up with my Mom and step-dad at Boston Pizza for some dinner and catching up. Tom dropped me off for a girls night while he went and visited his parents. Us girls drank wine, chatted and laughed non-stop. It was one of those nights that was good for the soul, but not so good for the liver.
Despite not getting to bed until 2 a.m. the night before, I somehow got myself up Saturday morning for my 11-mile run. It was a struggle for sure, but I was glad I got it done. After showering and getting ready, I met up with Tom’s family to watch my nephews hockey game. He had a whole cheering section just for him.
The hockey was hilarious to watch. 5-year-olds fall a lot during hockey and half of them don’t even care about the game. There were snow angels being made, a lot of chatting with teammates and skating in circles.
By some stroke of luck, all of Tom’s family was available on one day and it was his sister birthday, so we went to Tom’s parents for a potluck dinner together.
Tom and I got up early and met my brother and future sister-in-law for some ice fishing. When Tom asked me if I wanted to go ice fishing with my brother, I thought he was kidding. I’m not exactly a fisherman and I hate being cold. But it was a chance to hang out with my brother so I agreed.
I actually ended up having a great time. I wasn’t cold at all. My brother has a big ice fishing tent and a propane heater. I learned fishing is mostly just sitting around talking, which was fine by me. We did catch a few fish, in fact, everyone but me caught one. But none of them were big enough to keep. And I was perfectly fine not catching anything because I wanted nothing to do with the fish.
Tom and I headed back to Calgary since he had a Valentines Day surprise for me. He took me to a murder mystery dinner party at Fort Calgary. I’ve never been to one of these but I love the Clue movie and this was basically that brought to life! The cast was hilarious and while the food was only mediocre, I really enjoyed myself.
This week, as part of the Heart Healthy Challenge, GoodLife Fitness is offering an open house. That means anyone can go to the gym for free (that includes the fitness classes). I decided to take Tom with me and we got a chest workout done together followed by a run.
Then we spent the rest of the day spring cleaning. I know it’s not spring but it’s been feeling like it here with our amazing weather and we had a lot of junk to get rid of. I was completely exhausted by the time we sat down for supper. I could have went straight to bed but Tom convinced me to stay up and watch a movie with him. He may have bribed me with popcorn.
Overall, I had a fantastic weekend. Great times seeing family & friends plus a Valentines Day date, what else could I possibly ask for?
