Happy Monday! What a great weekend I had, it was jam packed and I loved every second of it. I hope you can say the same. The weather here was absolutely fantastic and I tried to soak up every second of it that I could.
Let’s start with Thursday. After I finished work I headed to the Calgary Stampede.
We walked around the grounds for a little bit where I of course had to indulge in some ridiculous deep fried foods. I tried a deep fried peanut butter & jam sandwich that was skewered with deep fried Reese’s peanut butter cups. I believe I may have my Dietitian license revoked for this.
And it was….gross! The batter was very thick on the sandwich and it just tasted way too greasy for me. I ate about 3 bites and gave it away to other friends & threw the rest out. The peanut butter cups however were quite tasty.
Then we headed to my favourite event, the chuck wagons.
Every year we place bets on the winning team of each heat. I won this year and ended up with quite the pile of money… plus bragging rights.
The grandstand show that took place after the chuck wagons was phenomenal. They had dancing, singing, acrobatics & even a live Canadian citizenship ceremony for one lucky family which brought me to tears. Then it was topped off with a 15 minute fireworks show. Absolutely spectacular!
Friday morning Tom and I were up bright and early for the 5km Angus Cattle Fun Run in support of the Calgary Food Bank.
And yes, Tom did run in that. I wasn’t feeling up to rocking the cowboy gear for the run so I stuck with my traditional running clothes. Right after the run we were off to Edmonton so I could go wedding dress shopping with my best friend, Chelsi!
She ended up saying yes to the dress! It’s so beautiful and I am so happy for her. Next we went to visit Tom’s parents who were out camping for my father-in-laws birthday.
Saturday morning Tom & I went for a run out around my sister’s house. And I saw no snakes this time! Maybe it’s the smoke. There are so many forest & wild fires around the area right now that the smoke was pretty terrible on the run. I had planned originally for 6 miles but my lungs were burning and we called it quits after 5.
Then more family came over and we celebrated my nieces’s first birthday with a barbecue.
Right after the barbecue, Tom and I headed back to Calgary to head to Ange’s house for another barbecue! She hosted a bunch of us bloggers at her place for a bbq and watching the Stampede fireworks from her balcony. If you can believe it not a single one of us bloggers took a picture of us that night. I don’t even understand how that happened. #BloggerFail
Sunday was all about catching up on life. I had to get prepared for Blog Fest, do a lot of work, plan upcoming vacations & clean up.
Overall the weekend was jam packed but like I’ve said before, that’s the way I like them!
What did you do this weekend? Would you have tried the deep fried PB &J?
