Happy Humpday folks! This week has been flying by for me.
I’ve talked before about my experience with Accutane. First, my decision to go on it and then my skincare survival tips. Now that I’ve finally finished the course (hurray!) I thought I should recap my experience & results.
I started Accutane in the beginning of February so for me it ended up taking about 4 months to complete the treatment. With Accutane there is a total dose of the drug you are trying to reach. Some people can tolerate higher dosages of the medication than others and therefore how long you are on it will depend upon your tolerance.
Luckily, I tolerated it very well. As I mentioned previously my side effects were very minimal. Yes, I had dry skin that flaked. When we were in Spain I affectionately referred to it as my beard. I would ask Chelsi how my beard was doing to know if I needed to put on more moisturizer. And yes, I had very, very dry lips. But other than that, I felt no other side effects at all.
Now I wish I could share a before and after photo. When I first started Accutane I took a photo to use as a before. But I couldn’t even stand to look at it so I deleted it. But I can proudly display to you my after photo. This is me completely makeup less and no filter.
And yes I had just woken up so my bedhead is out of control!
I shared this photo on Instagram and I can’t remember feeling happier. I haven’t been able to bare my face to my family yet alone the world for as long as I can remember. It was absolutely life changing.
Now I’m not saying Accutane is for everyone. I took some serious consideration when deciding whether or not I wanted to go on it. But for me, it was the right decision.
I’ve been off the Accutane for less than a week now so it’s hard to say yet what my face will end up doing. I go back to my dermatologist in 2 months to see how my skin reacts. Some people’s acne is cured for life with Accutane, some people need to continue with creams and some people end up having to do a second round of Accutane. Let’s hope I fall into the first category!
So far my skin is improving in dryness. However it’s not yet back to normal and my lips still require a lot of vaseline. What I cannot wait for is to put lipstick on. It’s been 4 months since I last wore lipstick. The second my lips aren’t chapped I am putting on lipstick and never taking it off!! Sorry Tom.
About two minutes after I wrote that sentence I went and put on lipstick! I couldn’t wait any longer. #MakeupAddict
