Despite the fact that we’re already into the week, I’m going back to recap my weekend because it was too good to not recap. Get ready for a huge photo dump because I have so many pictures I want to share.
Thursday night we headed out after work to Kicking Horse mountain resort in Golden, BC. I love that I live so close to the Canadian Rockies. It really doesn’t matter how many times I’ve been to the mountains, I can’t help but be in awe, they are so freaking beautiful!
Our cabin we rented was insane. We had 13 people stay there and there were beds to spare. I wish I had taken photos of it because it was gorgeous. Plus it had a hot tub. We learnt it is possible to squeeze 12 people into a 6 person hot tub. Though the water level was a tad low once we all got out.
Friday we were up bright and early to hit the slopes. As I mentioned, I’m
not a great of a a terrible snowboarder but I was going to give it another shot. The best part about this resort is it has a gondola. I HATE chair lifts because I fall every time I get off one. This causes a big pile up of people falling on top of you…not pretty.
The only bad thing about a gondola is that it goes high, like really high. I got to the top of the mountain and really wasn’t sure I was ever going to make it down. Luckily I found the perfect path.
I actually had a great time. I was impressed by how well I did considering it had been 2 years. I only really had one big fall. Tom was super patient with me and took it very slow with me. It took about an hour to get down one time and then I was pretty much spent. However, Tom somehow convinced me to get on a chair lift and guess what…I fell.
After lunch I called it a day so that Tom could go at a faster pace. I went for something that was a little more my style…a run!
Saturday after Tom went snowboarding for most of the day, he came back and met me for some snowshoeing.
It was a gorgeous trail and it was nice to be doing something a little slower and just be silly.
We knew 2 other groups of people on the ski hill with cabins so we met up for a big party Saturday night which was 80s themed. I LOVE the theme parties, so I was all in.
Later, I decided to add some bangs to my look which I think really completed it.
There were some seriously good costumes at this party.
We had a DJ who played the 80’s music and we danced the night away.
Some of us danced maybe a little too much. You see, when I have a few adult beverages I really like to be the centre of attention on the dance floor. This usually means I get in the middle of the circle and dance completely ridiculous and then bust out my signature move, the splits. It’s always a crowd pleaser.
I think Tom could see that I was about to do this move so he said to me, “Jen, maybe don’t do the splits because you’ll probably hurt yourself and won’t be able to run”. I think it was precisely one minute after this conversation that I was in the middle of the circle and yes…I did the splits. However, I didn’t hurt myself doing the splits, I hurt myself after I stood up and then slipped on the beer soaked floor onto my knees…hard. So now I’m nursing a bit of a knee injury. Luckily I’m seeing my physio today. I think I’ll tell him it came from a snowboarding accident…
Despite the minor injury, the weekend was an absolute blast!
