Happy Monday you friendly faces! I hope you had a great weekend. I had another stay in Calgary weekend.
It started Friday where I spent a good chunk of my day at the gym. Even though the weather was beautiful (for Canada), it was about 5 Celsius (41 Farenheit), I decided to do my long run on the treadmill. I’m really trying to work on my speed and I find I can push myself faster and harder on a treadmill than outside. After my 8 mile run, I took a break for a quick lunch then went back to the gym for my last personal training session.
I have really enjoyed my training sessions. They gave me a better idea of how to do effective strength training sessions on my own. If I could afford ongoing sessions I would but that’s just not in the cards.
Friday night Tom and I enjoyed a date night. First, we went to the Keg for dinner. We had some gift certificates from Christmas to use up. Then to the Bryan Adams concert. He is one of my all-time favourite singers and Tom got me tickets for Christmas. I have seen him in concert a few times and he’s always great. Once again, he did not disappoint.
Saturday morning I planned to run the first of the MEC series races in Calgary with Tom. We waited too long to sign up online but you can register day of as well. I woke up feeling really tired with no energy. I begged Tom to stay home but he practically forced me out the door. He said I would feel better if I just got it over and done with.
Turns out he was right. The first half mile or so, my legs felt heavy but then after that I was feeling pretty good. I ended up finishing in 58:47. It was a PR for me but I was hoping for better. Tom also got a PR, so overall I would chalk it up to a great day. Topping it off with brunch at Cora’s afterwards definitely made it worthwhile.
Saturday night, we went to a friends house for dinner and a games night.
Sunday morning I woke up ready to go to spin. Again my legs were feeling pretty tired and I contemplated not going. I decided to head to class and get a back row seat. I could always just phone it in a little if I wasn’t feeling it. Well I got to class and it became apparent that game plan wasn’t going to happen. I was the only person in class. Yup, just me and the instructor!
He asked me what my preference would be, I said just not a lot of hills! It ended up being a really great class. Having the one on one gave him a chance to explain things to me during the class and I pushed myself really hard.
The rest of Sunday was largely filled with errands but then Tom and I also decided to stop in on some open houses. We aren’t in the market for a new house but it’s a fun thing to do. There are a lot of really gorgeous brand new houses in our area. Tom said we could afford one if we stopped travelling so much, we decided to keep on travelling!
