A couple of weeks ago I got the most amazing package delivered, a brand new Keurig 2.0 K400. Considering coffee is my lifeline I was more than ecstatic about this.
The new Keurig is really pretty looking. I like the sleek styling and touchscreen. You can even change the wallpaper colour of your screen, super fancy! There are also additions including an option to make your coffee stronger and a different function for tea or hot chocolate. I am not sure how it brews differently but there’s a button for it so I assume it’s important.
Now before I give my full thoughts I should mention I already have a Keurig. My sister gifted it to me when I graduated from University. It still functions perfectly and has revolutionized my life. Okay, that’s maybe a tad dramatic but I absolutely love having a single brew machine.
Every weekday morning it’s just me up making a cup of coffee to take to work with me. I don’t give myself a spare moment in the morning. I give myself the exact amount of time I need to get myself ready and eat breakfast. I’ve never been organized enough to set up a coffee machine the night before with a timer so I would be scrambling around trying to make coffee and then praying for it to brew faster so I can get to work on time. Enter Keurig, now I have a cup of coffee in my to go mug in less than a minute.
The only time the single cup brewer hasn’t been the most functional is weekend where both Tom and I are both having coffee and sometimes 2 cups each. We have to brew 4 separate cups and use up 4 k-cups. Enter Keurig 2.0. The geniuses thought of making a carafe with larger k-cups so you can brew larger amounts at once. My life was now complete with my perfect coffee maker.
Or so I thought….
Unfortunately, after receiving my Keurig 2.0 I noticed two big changes from my old model. The first, the cup size. The largest cup size is 10 oz whereas on my old model the largest cup size is 12 oz. Now that doesn’t seem like a huge deal but I need those 2 oz in the morning. 12 oz perfectly fills my travel mug. I have started brewing 8 & 4 oz using the same k-cup. I haven’t noticed a change in taste but it is one extra step in morning time.
Secondly, the k-cups. The new machine now only allows for keurig branded k cups. The ring around the k cup is read by the machine. This means if you try to buy an off brand or use a reusable filter, the machine gives you an oops no can do message. Say what! This is my coffee maker and I should be able to choose whatever coffee I like. Truthfully, I only buy Keurig branded k-cups anyways, so it’s not an inconvenience to me but it upsets me on principle.
Luckily the lovely people of the internet have figured out ways around some of these inconveniences. I won’t say much more but a You Tube search would help you out.
Overall, would I buy this product?
Yes. Despite the shortcomings of this model, I am still in love. I’ve been a die hard Keurig fan since they came out with and I will continue to be a die-hard fan.
Full Disclosure: I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.
