Hey everyone and happy Monday. I know a lot of my fellow Canadian’s are not working and making it an extra long weekend since tomorrow is Canada day. Sadly though, I have to work.
Today I’m really excited to reveal what I received from my foodie pen pal.
Foodie pen pals is a program started by Lindsay from The Lean Green Bean. You submit your name and email to Lindsay and she will connect you with someone from your own country. You contact that person to find out about them such as what types of foods they like & what allergies or food restrictions they have. You have 10 days to fill a box with $15 worth of foods that you want to send to your penal. You include a handwritten note on why you have selected these items for that person and ship it off. At the same time, they are doing this for you! It’s such a unique idea and a fun way to share your favourite products and learn about new products. It is open to anyone, not just bloggers.
This was my first time with the foodie pen pal and I had a great experience. I got connected with Amanda who is from Stony Plain, Alberta. I right away contacted her and started asking her a couple of questions. Amanda has participated in the foodie pen pal program every month for over a year! I knew from her detailed questions that I was going to get a great box delivered.
The day my box arrived, I was so excited! I just wanted to rip it open and see what was inside but I made sure to take some pictures along the way.
What was in the box:
Chocolate Peanut Butter:
I was really excited about this. I have seen this in stores but haven’t tried it yet. This stuff is delicious. It’s way less sweet than Nutella but equally delicious.
Raspberry & Dark Chocolate Jam:
Okay, yum! Raspberry is my favourite type of jam, especially homemade, and then you throw dark chocolate in. This jam was super tasty. The chocolate was subtle but made for a nice change up from regular jam.
In case I didn’t like the jam or the chocolate peanut butter she included some classic Nutella. Well, I enjoyed all three!
Amanda stated that a previous foodie pen pal sent her chia seeds and got her addicted. I am a huge fan of chia seeds. You can check out my post on their health properties here.
Simply Protein Bar:
Amanda noted on my blog that I am not a fan of the Quest bars, like so many other fitness bloggers. She found me a different type of bar to try. I have heard of Simply Protein but have yet to try their products. This bar made it about 10 seconds after I took the picture. It was really good. Not sweet at all but had good flavour. It has a great nutrition profile and definitely something I will repurchase during my marathon training.
Amanda is a huge fan of Davids tea and sent me two of her favourite flavours. So far I have only tried the daydreamer, which is delicious!
Amanda asked in our initial contact if I had someone special who might like a treat. I mentioned Tom liked smarties so she sent two packages for him. How sweet is that.
Overall, I could not have been more impressed with my foodie pen pal experience. Amanda definitely understood my love of chocolate and sent me some amazing items. I think this is such a fun and unique way to try out things you may have never had otherwise. I will definitely continue to participate in the program in the future!
Which item would you be most excited to receive? What item would you have to include if you had a foodie pen pal?
